Huge Thanks for an Inspiring Weekend!

April 20th, 2010

HATCHfest Asheville 2010 was an amazing experience!  We are still reeling from conversations we had, panel discussions we attended, workshops, the Matt Morris and Frank Bell concert and the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus!  We are buzzing with new friends and so excited to have re-connected with old friends.  A big THANK YOU to all who volunteered, coordinated, hosted, mentored, sponsored and attended … we could not have done it without you!

We are looking for your pictures and stories, we want to hear about your experiences!  We will have a page for you to share on the website this week, but in the meantime, please email your photos and links to flickr pages to molly@musicallies.com.

Saturday! Brendan Boyle of IDEO hosts the D&T Workshop: From Play to Innovation. He is also one of IDEO’s spokesmen: he is a highly requested public speaker, and has published articles on brainstorming and innovation in the workplace on ABCnews.com.

More on “From Play to Innovation”:

Companies that innovate well often share in common a culture of optimism and playfulness. Evidence shows that as we grow older we become more conservative with our thinking. In order to have the freedom to generate unique innovations and inventions, one needs a secure safe environment, as well as peers that are excited and passionate about out-of-the-box thinking. In addition to playfulness, many companies that are consistently innovative are able to sustain a common culture of optimism. This type of culture exemplifies a company’s belief that its employees are extremely capable and serves as fertile breeding ground for extraordinary innovation and entrepreneurial spirit. Through the lens of play this presentation discusses what building a culture of innovation looks like and how principles of supporting innovation via playfulness can be used across multiple industries.

Then be sure to get your batteries re-charged and ready for a panel featuring all the talented D&T mentors. The panel’s focus: Creative Process and Getting Past Being “Stuck”. Every designer faces the equivalent of “writer’s block.” A time when the demands of the project exceed the solution that you’ve created, and you’re out of ideas. This panel of experts will speak to their philosophies on applying design methodologies (or building their own), share some “war stories” on challenges they have faced and how they beat them. You’ll also have the chance to ask for questions and advice from this distinguished group.

Art & Copy is a powerful new film about advertising and inspiration. HATCH Asheville would like to thank our sponsor of the film, 828 Design, for bringing this amazing documentary to the Fine Arts Theatre during HATCHfest.
